En tragisk hændelse fra 1957, et dobbelt dødsfald, som måske var en dødspagt mellem to ulykkeligt forelskede, kaster lange skygger over efterforskningen. Varg Veum blandes ind i langt mere end et kriminalmysterium. Lidt efter lidt tegner der sig en dobbelteksponeret kærlighedshistorie, hvor nutiden spejler sig i fortiden. Og først på de sidste sider falder alle brikkerne på plads.
