The British Empire has sleepwalked, unprepared into war with the Triple Alliance, the Spanish colonies of the Caribbean and Central America. But this is not to be a war like those which have gone before it; wars decided by crushing British sea power and eventually, on land by the superiority of the logistics and tactics of relatively small colonial armies in the South Western badlands. It is April 1964 in a world in which the ‘swinging '60s’ never happened. Two Soviet tank armies have fallen on Iran and are poised to pour down from the Zagros Mountains onto the Iraqi floodplains of the Tigris and the Euphrates like wolves upon the fold. The Shah is dead, and Tehran has been destroyed by a nuclear strike; in Iraq, there has been a coup d’état, and civil war has broken out. Only a handful of British tanks and a few thousand widely scattered troops around the oilfields of the Middle East stand between the Red Army and mastery of the Persian Gulf.

When a distress signal from the colonial transport ship Burnside pulls the crew of the Alura out of lightspeed, Cooper Montbarts sees a chance for a quick salvage grab on the lifeless vessel. Cooper soon finds out nothing is as easy as it seems. Other ships appear in the void, intent on taking what the crew of the Alura had rightfully claimed as their own. Soon, Cooper and his group find themselves trapped on the Burnside and hunted by the mysterious killer that slaughtered the original crew.
