First published in 1891, Diary of a Pilgrimage is a charming retelling of a journey to Oberammergau, Germany: the home of the famous Passion Play. Written with Jerome's trademark wit and candour, Diary of a Pilgrimage follows our protagonist – who appears to act as a proxy for Jerome himself – and his friend, B., as they travel to Germany to see the eminent Passion Play, a traditional historical spectacle that occurs once every ten years.

On the Stage—and Off: The Brief Career of a Would-Be Actor is Jerome K. Jerome’s wry, self-aware account of youthful ambition colliding with reality. Written with the gentle irony and observational humor that would later make him famous, this autobiographical sketch follows a young Jerome as he becomes convinced—briefly but earnestly—that the theater is his true calling.

The funny and poignant autobiography of Jerome K Jerome, who is best known for his comic novel Three Men in a Boat. Jerome struggled against poverty and obscurity, not to mention his improbable name, for many years before Three Men in a Boat made him a celebrity and the friend of other celebrities. A man of deep human sympathies and principles, he lived through and engaged with, a time - like our own - of unprecedented changes and inventions.

Jerome K. Jerome is of course known for the hilarious adventures of “Three Men in a Boat”. He also wrote many short stories and essays that have all the wit, whimsy, and wisdom of his more famous work. The essays in this volume were published together with “The Diary of a Pilgrimage” in 1891. They are: “Evergreens”, “Clocks”, “Tea-Kettles”, “A Pathetic Story”, “The New Utopia”, and “Dreams”.

In 1889 a broke ex-actor sat down to write a serious history of the River Thames. He meant to cover the abbeys, the charters, the battles, and the kings. His editor cut all of it. What survived was a book about three incompetent men, a fictional dog, a tin of pineapple that could not be opened, and a cheese so powerful it emptied a railway carriage. It has never once been out of print.

A story bubbling with Jerome's wit and whimsy, this tale fully deserves its place in the sun.

This audiobook is a faithful reproduction of one of Jerome K Jerome's first successes, a humorous autobiographical look at his early career in the theatre, published in 1885. The modest success of this book opened the door to further plays and essays, leading on to 'Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow' in the following year.
