Best friends Charley Chipmunk and Seymour Squirrel are planning their Hanukkah celebration. "I'll fry the latkes, and you bring the menorah and the candles," Seymour suggests. But when Hanukkah arrives, Charley can't remember what he is supposed to bring.

Silas and Great-Grandma Faye always end their video calls with "See you soon!" Great-Grandma Faye says that Havdalah, which separates Shabbat from the rest of the week, is like saying "See you soon!" to Shabbat. She shows Silas a spice box made by his great-grandpa, who used to say, "Havdalah is the time between Shabbat and ordinary days, when we get to feel both kinds of magic at the same time." Great-Grandma Faye suggests she and Silas make Havdalah together over the internet until they can be together again.

"Una merenda azeremos," Abuela says to her grandson. "But I don't understand," says the boy. "It means 'we will cook together' in our secret language," says Abuela. That evening, Mamá explains that the Spanish Jews took the Ladino language with them when they were forced to leave their homelands in Spain and Portugal during the Inquisition. "Can I learn the secret language?" the boy asks.

It's Friday, and little Ruby gets to spend the day with her great-grandma, Tata. Together, they go for a walk with Ruby's grandma, Yaya. They take a nap. They read books. The whole family gathers for Shabbat dinner, and Ruby gets to eat a delicious piece of challah bread. Best of all, throughout the day, Tata tells Ruby funny, fantastical stories that come from her dreams, in which she soars on a giant blueberry bird, or dances right on top of the dinner table.

The great babka bake-off is on! Esther and Hester’s new neighbor, Sylvester, will gladly be their babka tester, and decide which sister’s Babka is the best. With cat Lester and dog Chester, the new friends enjoy a delicious Shabbat.
