Lainey hasn't had the best start in life. Her mother is neglectful, and her stepfather is a piece of work. Still, she makes the most of life. She loves attending art college and looks forward to a time when she can be on her own. Then one night, she is knocked down by a speeding driver, and she wakes up as a member of the undead. Not only that, she has powerful visions of an ancient evil vampire, but people are out to get her and to use her unique powers for their own gain.

Years ago, a fire tore through a small hospital, reducing the structure to matchstick and cinder. The hospital was rebuilt bigger and more promising than before...but old memories can only stay forgotten for so long. With the arrival of a new patient, the hospital begins to experience unexplained phenomena. Rumors whisper through the halls of a girl who leaves no footprints and casts no shadows.
