When advertising executive Jane Walker, finds herself widowed and expecting her first child, she sinks into a severe depression. Her boss and co-workers surprise her with a vacation, forcing her from the safety of her office. She's too embarrassed to tell anyone her late husband was leaving her for another woman when he was killed in the accident. When Jane arrives at the vacation destination, she's most upset to find that the bed and breakfast is run by an Amish family.

Many faithful children of our Heavenly Parents find it difficult to stay in the Church, not because of doctrine or a lack of desire to keep the commandments, but because of Latter-day Saint culture. The good news is that we need not wait to be more welcoming and inclusive. We can all be part of the solution.

The “Good Ship Zion” represents The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and all the good it can bring into our lives. But not everyone feels welcome and secure in the boat. Instead of putting the responsibility on others to get comfortable – or to figuratively stop rocking the boat – we can all work in our circles of influence to improve the Good Ship Zion for everyone, as we journey together to the safe harbor of God’s presence. “It’s just a really big boat.”

F. F. Bosworth (1877-1958) was an evangelist, an early religious broadcaster, and a Pentecostal faith healer.
