This language course offers a guide to both French and Italian. This course is ideal if you are visiting both France and Italy on a European trip, or if you simply want to gain an understanding of two of the more popular European languages, with French spoken not only in France but across major regions of the Middle East, Africa, and elsewhere and Italian being a very similar language to French in many ways. So Italian and French are a great language pairing to learn together given their similar roots.

How did we choose the words that you should know first? We interviewed Italian natives and let them speak about the subject of their choice. We then selected a minute and a half of these conversations and isolated every word pronounced, classifying them into basic, primary, and secondary vocabulary. In the basic list, we put all the words that appear systematically in every conversation. Table, crayon-pencil, or avion-airplane would be included in the primary vocabulary list, but not in the basic vocabulary list where you will find words like: for, that, what, I, of, in, am.

I have tried many Italian programs in order to get a good grasp of Italian for beginners and to perhaps be able to speak it a little. Some are quite good but the truth is that in order to really get a good understanding and feel for the language you need to hear it being spoken, regularly, by Italian people.
