The Pirates of Shan is the fourteenth Rick Brant adventure, and is one of the more adventure-oriented volumes in the series. Rick and Scotty fly off to the Philippines, along with Dr. Zircon, to search for missing Doctors Briotti and Shannon. It's a similar setting to the tenth book, The Golden Skull, but takes place mainly on the Sulu Sea and the island of Shan.

After learning the truth behind the vampire pirates swarming the Mediterranean Sea, the young gods and demigods join forces with the vampires in the fight against corruption. But first, they must learn to be pirates. According to one of their leaders, Delphine, it's a dangerous art form that any can learn but not all can survive. Delphine also says there's no room for both love and war. And there's a war going on. Yet, the heart wants what the heart wants.

Während ihrer Suche treffen Petra, Alexander, Hans-Georg, Esther und Marianne auf skurrile, merkwürdige und durchaus gefährliche Typen, die sie über ihre eigentlichen Beweggründe im Dunkeln lassen. Als plötzlich große Gefahr droht, hört der Spaß wirklich auf.
