Adda Karpe and Iridian Nassir have escaped the murderous AI that was trapping them on Barbary Station and earned themselves a place on Captain Sloane's fabled pirate crew. And now that they've arrived at Vesta, Sloane's home base, they can finally start making a living stealing from well-off megacorporations. Unfortunately, the political situation has deteriorated in Captain Sloane's absence. Adda and Iridian find themselves trapped in a contract with Oxia Corp., one of the very megacorporations they'd hoped to prey on, forced to rob and intimidate targets.

Adda and Iridian are newly minted engineers, but aren't able to find any work in a solar system ruined by economic collapse after an interplanetary war. Desperate for employment, they hijack a colony ship and plan to join a famed pirate crew living in luxury at Barbary Station, an abandoned shipbreaking station in deep space. But when they arrive there, nothing is as expected. The pirates aren't living in luxury - they're hiding in a makeshift base welded onto the station's exterior hull.

Despite the best efforts of both the Republic of Aquitaine Navy (RAN) and the Freiburg Empire, pirates remain a problem for smaller communities, away from the main starlanes. Due to Jessica Keller's success on her previous mission to cause problems for the Freiburg Empire, the head of the senate requests Jessica's assistance on a very special assignment: pirate hunting. What sort of mischief can Jessica and her crew cause in a backwater system? Particularly when given the full backing of the senate?

Fleeting Death: Space Pirates is a dark, hard science fiction space adventure following a band of space pirates known as "the Marauders". Hundreds of people go missing in the remote, treacherous region of space they inhabit. On one side is a corrupt, state-corporate society, and on the other is all the fearsome things which lurk in the outer darkness.
