The Roommate is a fitting title for an account of my first year at Stapleton College, where she and her worrisome problems rub off on me, steal sleep and even force me to hide once or twice. Some will say I bring it all on myself by butting in, and maybe I do. But in my defense, it’s mostly necessary. In the middle of her mess, my own life takes a swerve, upending plans for a snug little future.

During my early twenties as a young and sometimes excruciatingly naïve gal growing up in New York City, life was challenging and rewarding. While navigating through my personal sea of fear, laughter, and pain, I discovered how living with family, friends, and crazy roommates equipped me with life-changing tools I used towards shaping a successful adult life. Like many daring apartment dwellers before me, I faced my own flavor of uncertainty and occasional horrors sharing a home with roommates who were less than desirable.
