A new lesson called fringe science has been added to his timetable, Mrs Cutson is acting more sadistic than ever, and two exchange students from Norsegate have arrived, causing trouble and provoking Seckry and his friends.

When Seckry was six years old, his father disappeared. The two of them had spent the afternoon picking berries together in the fields surrounding their village. In Seckry's vague memory, it had been perfect. But the following morning his father was gone, and had taken all traces of his existence with him. Dreams of that afternoon still plague Seckry's nights. Swimming in and out of his consciousness are images of his father's watch; one that was glowing an eerie green, and inscribed with foreign markings. What had his dad told him about that watch?
