The Marvelous Land of Oz by L. Frank Baum is a whimsical and adventurous sequel to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The story follows Tip, a mischievous young boy raised by the wicked witch Mombi, as he escapes her clutches and embarks on a magical journey through the Land of Oz. The Marvelous Land of Oz is book two in the Oz series by L. Frank Baum. In this story, we meet a young boy named Tip. His guardian Mombi is a wicked witch and Tip is always met with anger and abuse. One day Tip has had enough and seeks revenge on the witch, building a wooden man with a pumpkin for a head, hoping to frighten Mombi. His plan backfires and while not fooled, Mombi demonstrates her own power by bringing the aptly named Jack Pumpkinhead to life. Not yet done with her abuse, Mombi informs Tip she will turn him into a stone statue as punishment for his deceit.

Some people do not know that The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was actually the first of a 13-story series. The Marvelous Land of Oz, the second story, brings the Scarecrow and the Tin Man into new adventures in the Land of Oz. In this story, which is as equally entertaining as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the Tin Man and Scarecrow are persuaded to help out a young boy who finds himself in difficulty. There is also flying furniture among the oddities.

The Marvelous Land of Oz begins soon after the events of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and follows the adventures of a young boy named Tip exploring a world where everything has been turned upside down after the departure of Dorothy. When Dorothy left, her friends the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman were given rulership over the Emerald City and the Winkie Kingdom. But the Scarecrow’s rule of the Emerald City has been overthrown by an all-girl army, and Tip is recruited along with the Tin Woodman to help him get the city back.

Tip, a young Gillikin boy, runs away from his cruel guardian, the wicked witch Mombi. He meets up with the Scarecrow, now ruler of the Emerald City; the Tin Woodman; many new friends; and an army of girls who want to overthrow the Scarecrow. Before it's over, Tip finds out that he is part of a dark secret from Oz's past.
