'The Return of Tarzan' (1913) is the second in a series of twenty-four books about Tarzan, which author Edgar Rice Burroughs worked on until the 1940s.

This is the second story in the Tarzan adventure novels. Tarzan has been in England where he has been learning about civilization, his heritage and how he fits into it all as Lord Greystoke. Fate thrusts Tarzan back into the primeval jungle and as he returns to it, his adventures begin with a shipboard altercation. Evil Nickolas Rokoff, the recipient of Tarzan's wrath, swears vengeance and puts a price on Tarzan's head. But Tarzan has greater concerns on his mind as he leaves modern civilization behind to discover a hidden ancient civilization.

With the African continent engulfed by World War II, John Clayton, Lord Greystoke, abandons his role as Lord of the Jungle in order to combat the spreading Nazi menace. Flying a P-40 Tomahawk warplane, Clayton is sent on his first mission: to rescue the missing British Military Intelligence officer code-named Ilex. But the daring task plunges him into his savage past after he’s forced down in a lost land that seems hauntingly familiar.
