For more than a decade, Earth has been plagued by black spheres known as Rifts that form in towns and cities without warning and transport people to alien landscapes where monstrous creatures hunt them mercilessly. Anyone lucky enough to escape returns home with an unusual side effect: supernatural powers coursing through their bodies from white crystal shards fused to their chests. With abilities ranging from uncanny agility and strength to immeasurable spell crafting, these Rifters are warriors and mages, battling extraterrestrials whenever a Rift appears.

The Age of Rifts began thirteen years ago when the first black sphere appeared on Earth, teleporting everyone within its radius to an alien realm where they fell prey to otherworldly creatures. Those who survived and returned home found white crystal shards grafted onto their chests. Imbued with energy, these Riftshards grant people supernatural abilities. Known as Rifters, they have become Earth's first line of defense against this unpredictable invasion, able to enter the spheres and fight the monsters and evolving with greater powers after every battle.

The Six Fingers return to Northem with a powerful, magical artifact known as the Azure Font. They mount it atop the ancient Faellic tower, but have little idea of what comes next. When the Red Lady senses something "truly evil" rising in the south, they embark on their third expedition. It takes them across the nightmarish Sea of Spires and into the heart of Atmaa, the last kingdom untouched by the Askerati hordes. As they discover, something worse than child-burning zealots has awakened.
