Simon Peter - Sifted as Wheat examines the sad episode of Peter's denial of the Lord. "Simon, Simon," the Lord says, "behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat; but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not; and when thou art converted (restored), strengthen thy brethren." Simon got his warning here; if he had only taken heed of it, what a different sequel would have been recorded! If he had only been chaff and not really wheat, Satan would not have wanted to sift him.

When a Christian enters into connection with the world, he lays himself open to be "persuaded" by the world - to enter upon an unchristian course of action.

Peace with God: There are four things that hinder souls from having peace: Coates uses four Old Testament pictures to show how every question in connection with these four things has been met and settled for the believer, for example, "Many believers in Jesus do not know that their sins are put away...actually carried out of God's sight and removed from before him by being borne by Jesus."

In Jonathan and His Times, W. W. Fereday examines the life and times of Jonathan, son of King Saul. Although a man of faith who loved David as his own soul and performed many daring exploits in the name of Jehovah, he was a man of mixed principles, a double-minded man who never lived up to his spiritual potential. Jonathan's weakness is clearly shown: He was not prepared to follow David in his rejection.

In A Night in the Sea (which is part of his excellent book Night Scenes of Scripture) , beginning with the night-time crossing of the Red Sea in Exodus 14, WTP Wolston discusses "The Salvation of the Lord".
