In 1966, The Wonder Boys, one of America’s top rock bands, embarked on a flight from Anchorage to Fairbanks for a concert. However, their plane mysteriously vanished en route. Adding to the mystery, the band’s manager, who opted out of the flight, disappeared the following day, leaving no trace. Fast forward nearly six decades to the present day. Bush pilot Scott Harper, accompanied by his recently adopted daughter Michaela and his former police dog Max, stumbles upon the wreckage of the missing aircraft.

Scott Harper makes his living flying hunters and fishermen into the wilds of Alaska. However, his current passenger is different, wearing a suit and tie and carrying a briefcase. Scott’s strange passenger directs him by gunpoint to a remote landing strip in the middle of nowhere, and armed men suddenly surround his plane. Barely able to take off under fire, his aircraft is heavily damaged and crashes deep in the wilderness. With the men in hot pursuit, Scott must navigate the rugged terrain to stay one step ahead.

It has been 17 years since the event that killed most of the people on the planet. The violence that swept the country for so long is gone, and Ben and Lila are now living a peaceful existence in their Yellowstone community. But more trouble is looming, and when their daughter Katie—now 16 and going by the name of Cat—and 11 other teenagers leave to explore the country, that trouble hits home.

They can't escape the evil. When a forest fire destroys their beloved forest sanctuary, Ben and Lila, along with their six-year-old daughter Katie, head west through the earthquake-ravaged landscape toward a rumored thriving community in Yellowstone National Park. But another rumor persists of a "great evil" in the Midwest - one they will have to deal with if they have any hope of making it safely to Yellowstone, a community they are not even sure really exists. Six years after finding their peace, Ben and Lila have to reenter the world. Has it gotten better or become far worse?
