Max Brand (real name: Frederick Faust) wrote hundreds of stories, books, films, and TV shows. His output was so voluminous that though he died in WWII, posthumous books have been published approximately every four months since. This book collects three stories from his early work in Western pulps.

A comedic western, "Mountain Man" is about the tall tales and big adventures of Brekenridge Elkins, an exaggerated, cartoonish version of Howard himself. The story first appeared in the March - April 1934 issue of Action Stories and was so popular that other magazines asked Howard for similar characters, giving birth to an entire series full of colorful characters.

Hare knows he must stop the marriage but he can't kill the son of his benefactor - that is, until a gun battle with a band of rustlers brings the two face-to-face over drawn pistols!
