A metaphorical tale of the cycle of life. It is hoped that this story might help some young people deal with the grief of losing a loved family member or pet and with the challenges of growing up. The story is not meant to be religious but spiritual so that it can be shared with young people regardless of religious belief.

Paragon is dying. Since their King sacrificed his life, the Peculiar’s have been waiting for a savior for centuries, but if he or she doesn’t show up soon, the magic of Paragon, and everyone within it, will cease to exist. So when a demoralized kid and his two new mates, fresh out of New Jersey’s finest rehab…well, freshly escaped, anyway…show up to the town unannounced claiming to have no idea how they got there, there has to be a vital reason why…for only a Peculiar can enter Paragon, let alone even see it.

This is a tale of dryads, from a time long before human history began. Lara, a young dryad, once had three hearts (as with all her kind). To recover them and bring them to life, she must set out on an unknown journey. Fearing the god of the land, who reportedly devours hearts, and inexplicably drawn to the lamia (who, tales say, revive hearts by an ominous method called guttings), she leaves her home, embarking on the heart-finding quest.
