When the Holy Spirit first poured out in the 1730s and 1740s, Jonathan Edwards was at the forefront. The United States had not yet declared independence from England, and was an ever-changing landscape of immigrants from all over the world. These cultures brought an array of false idols, religions, witchcraft, and more. A spiritual war had begun in the nation as the devil attempted to undermine what God was doing in the land.

Jonathan Edwards is perhaps best known for his "fire and brimstone" approach to preaching which emphasized the sovereignty of God, the depravity of humankind, the reality of hell, and the necessity of a conversion experience. Experience the reasoning of the great Puritan philosopher in his sermons, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," the most famous sermon in American history, and "Pardon for the Greatest of Sinners."

Using the testimony of Ruth, Jonathan Edwards urges nonbelievers to leave their comfort zones, their presumptions, and their ignorance to follow a God who already loves them and desires only faith and obedience. The promises of the Savior are immediately available and life changing in the most...

Jonathan Edwards is often referred to as America’s greatest theologian. He lived from 1703-1758, and was used by God in the American Great Awakening. Justification by Faith Alone was a printed discourse based on the sermons he had preached on Justification during the 1730s that led to a great revival among the people in his area. This audiobook is read from Edwards’ original text with only a few minor changes to make it more understandable to the listener.

Jonathan Edwards, often referred to as America’s greatest theologian, lived from 1703-1758. He was wonderfully used by God in the American Great Awakening. This sermon is taken from Revelation 5:5-6, which pictures Jesus Christ as both a Lion and a Lamb. Using this dual imagery of the Lion and the Lamb, Edwards magnified Christ in his majestic person as both God and man. For the Christian, this sermon is pure exaltation, pure enjoyment, and pure worship.

This is the quintessential hellfire and damnation sermon. It is one of the most important sermons ever preached in America and reportedly caused mass conversions and repentances during the "Great Awakening" back in 1741. The vivid imagery Edwards used reportedly made some of those who heard it tremble and cry out for mercy. It is an important piece of American Literature, even for those those who totally disagree with the author's view of God as vengeful, angry and a bit cruel.

Christian Fundamentalism is a doctrine and a discourse in tension. Fundamentalists describe themselves as both marginal and a majority. They announce the imminent end of the world, while building massive megachurches and political lobbying organizations. They speak of the need for purity and separation from the outside world, while continually innovating in their search for more effective and persuasive ways to communicate with and convert outsiders.

The quintessential hellfire and damnation sermon that reportedly caused mass conversions and repentances. This used to be (and in some places still is) taught as part of the US high school American literature curriculum. Perhaps more controversial today than in 1741!
