As featured in the Ram Dass documentary film Becoming Nobody, five essential live teaching sessions on audio, presented here in their entirety The game is not about becoming somebody, it’s about becoming nobody. —Ram Dass If you’re a spiritual explorer of any age or tradition, chances are...

Recorded in 1980 in San Francisco, Ram Dass gives a glimpse into one of his more challenging experiences as a teacher. His humanity and humor come through in this transcribed excerpt from his workshop on relationships.

This wonderful program offers true insight into Ram Dass’ thoughts on a variety of topics that have informed his worldview and subsequent teachings. Recorded in October of 1968 at the Seminar House in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, this much beloved teacher talks about his own spiritual teachers and other gurus and their impact on his own beliefs; the concept of “Be Here Now” - which became the title of his seminal and renowned book published three years after this talk; the practice of yoga; the use of psychedelics like LSD; and other compelling topics.

Ram Dass explains that we must first acknowledge our humanity if we hope to be an instrument of presence and peace. When we embrace our humanness, we create the space necessary for compassion to arise. We learn to balance the suffering we encounter with the innate empathy of the human heart. We awaken through our life experiences, which become the curriculum for our incarnation. Our humanity itself is the vehicle through which our spirit can manifest. The help we offer is who we are, our very being.

Offered at a summer retreat over several days in August and September of 1969 on a farm in New Hampshire, this discussion led by Ram Dass delves deeply into topics that are now generally accepted in many forms of spiritual practice but were life- and mind-changing at the time and continue to be profound teachings for all of us.
