Farms have fences. People have boundaries. Mine began crumbling the day I knelt behind a male sheep, reached between his legs, and squeezed his testicles. This took place one blustery November day when I joined other shepherd-wannabes for a class on the basics of raising sheep. I was there with my partner Melissa, the woman I'd lived with for 12 years, because we were going to start a farm.

This is history told by a man who was right in the middle of it while it happened. Clarence Snyder tells how he got sober under Dr Bob’s care at City Hospital, Akron Ohio. He talks at length about his hospitalization and the 18 men who visited him. How they told him about their troubles with Alcoholism, but then would not explain the solution they had found (obvious from their sober healthy appearances).

Dr Bob's talks are filled with the wisdom that kept Bill W on track during the often erratic pioneering era. Both the 1948 Detroit radio broadcast and the 1950 convention talk are included. Dr Bob tells how the day he first met Bill W. "Well, I don't ever remember feeling much worse. But being...

He is the master of the known world, a philosopher-king ruling with an unparalleled, divine intellect.

The Bottomless Cloud challenges the scarcity-driven mindset by taking a hard look at how industrial-age business models are failing us by regarding data as a commodity and a cost that needs to be constrained, rather than a near-infinite resource that can be mined to build entirely new sources of value and insight. From Uber to Nike to Netflix, The Bottomless Cloud is defining the tenets of success in the 21st century by changing the way we view data, from being a byproduct of business to a foundational driver of radically new business models.

Marty Mann The first woman to get sober in Alcoholics Anonymous tells her story in a 1968 talk at San Francisco, CA. This is the best example of Marty Mann recovery story I have heard. The sound quality is very good, which is unusual for a 1968 AA recording. Great audiobook about recovery - historic and enjoyable. Marty was the first woman to achieve lasting sobriety in AA, founder of National Council on Alcoholism, author of at least two books on alcoholism, author of AA's The Big Book story "Women Suffer, Too", and co-founder of The AA Grapevine.

Speaking to an enthusiastic AA crowd, Father Joseph Martin talks about AA and then proceeds to talk in order about the 12 Steps. A very good example of Father Joseph Martin's excellent AA message.

In the Family Meeting Desert Roundup 1970, Father Fred introduces Terry M, the Alateen Speaker. She tells her story. Chuck C talks about alcoholism and how his drinking and recovery have affected his family. Elsa Chamberlain talks about being a person deeply affected by alcoholism in a loved one, how Alanon has helped her, her alanon work with others, and how alanon and alateen can help the families of alcoholics.

He opens with a very funny drunk joke that I was surprised that I hadn't heard. Clarence tells his own story, his drinking and how he came in contact with his sponsor Dr. Bob. He talks about his early sobriety some of which qualifies as AA history. How the Cleveland contingent of the Akron Oxford Group broke away because of its many Catholic members and the need for a group made up solely of alcoholics and their families.

Bill W. recounts the stories and talks about the principles and people who shaped Alcoholics Anonymous and its program of recovery from alcoholism.

The roles of faith, belief, and spirituality in Heroin Anonymous are covered, but mostly this audio book is about behavior motivating beliefs, like those of the cognitive model. The beliefs of using heroin addicts about their addiction, their life and heroin are what keeps them using. These beliefs are shaped by the addict’s mental obsession which excuses and justifies using at every turn. Obsessions of every kind function by excusing and justifying aberrant behavior.

Doug Stanhope is one of the most critically acclaimed and stridently unrepentant comedians of his generation. What will surprise some is that he owes so much of his dark and sometimes uncomfortably honest sense of humor to his mother, Bonnie.
