Edith Nesbit wrote under the name E. Nesbit, and is most famous for her stories for children, and has influenced the likes of J.K. Rowling, C.S. Lewis and P.L. Travers. She wrote over 60 books, including The Railway Children, Five Children and It, and The Story of the Treasure Seekers. Her second, darker reputation was as a purveyor of horror stories, which are sublime in their elegance and simplicity.

"Fünf Kinder und es" ist ein Kinderroman von englischem Autor E. Nesbit. Es wurde ursprünglich 1902 im Strand Magazine unter dem allgemeinen Titel "The Psammead" oder "The Gifts" veröffentlicht. Von April bis Dezember erscheint jeden Monat ein Segment. Die Geschichten wurden dann zu einem Roman erweitert, der im selben Jahr veröffentlicht wurde. Es ist der erste Band einer Trilogie, die "The Phoenix and the Carpet" (1904) und "The Story of the Amulet" (1906) enthält. Das Buch war seit seiner Erstveröffentlichung nie vergriffen.
