What does one do when issued an order by a superior that is contradictory to what one believes to be right? In this short fictional story from the American Civil War, the protagonist is faced with that very situation. When given an insulting and ridiculous order by his commanding general, he carries the order out. Then, when questioned by a subordinate, he passes it on to him in the same manner. In order to accomplish this, the young inventor invents an "air glider" that (don't try this at home) operates best in a hurricane. In this episode instead of his arch rival Andy Foger, the Czarists provide the intrigue as they attempt to capture Tom and his friends.

Tom Swift in the Land of Wonders volume 20 in the Tom Swift series by Victor Appleton. In this volume Tom and his friends are in the Honduran jungle in search of a Golden Idol. Our hero thwarts the bad guys, find the idol, and he gets the girl. A fun escape for the listener to those thrilling days of yesteryear, when "electric" rifles in the near future were a distinct possibility.

To Build a Fire is regarded by many as an American classic, one of London's most highly regarded works. We never know the name of the protagonist as he makes his way towards his destination, trekking across the Yukon at 70° below zero. Nature is unforgiving to those who challenge her.
