A wealthy merchant, Feivel learns about the meaning of Hanukkah only after he condemns a small brood of hungry children for begging. "In a charming story from the oral tradition, a rich man begrudges three hungry children the good smells emanating from his kitchen window, and insists that they should pay for them. The kindly town rabbi comes up with a solution that is completely fair but that also teaches the miserly merchant a valuable lesson."-The Horn Book

Rose McKenzie is no stranger to running. After the death of her father threatens to bring her back under her mother’s control permanently, Rose flees again. This time it’s to the only sanctuary she’s ever known: a tiny island called Nora. A shadow looms over her childhood haven. The longer she stays in Nora, the more Rose realizes the island she knew has changed. Families are leaving in droves, and strangers are taking their places, strangers that don’t seem… human.

Cecilia Friedman is a rising tech star who has no time for relationships, let alone a wife, so she isn’t sure what to think when her grandmother tells her that she has found a spouse for her. Ingrid Gordon, one of Toronto’s most eligible bachelorettes and influencers, is known for being a flighty player and she'd rather everyone think of her that way than the vulnerable woman she really is. When Cecilia's and Ingrid’s families suggest that they get married, each woman agrees to the arrangement for their own reasons.
