It’s the 1980s and David has just started secondary school. He’s becoming a teenager, while hanging onto the rituals of childhood, particularly his addiction to Doctor Who: sharing the books with his best friend and neighbour, Robert, and watching the TV show. But adolescence is as strange and alien to David as anything the good Doctor encountered, so he’s mystified when Robert begins to reject his hero in favour of girls, free weights and new music.

The Doctor and Charley decide to take a well-deserved break from the monotony of being chased, shot at and generally suffering antisocial behaviour at the hands of others. And so they end up in Venice, well into Charley's future, as the great city prepares to sink beneath the water for the last time...which would be a momentous, if rather dispiriting, event to witness in itself.

It's been many years since a certain yellow Edwardian roadster was a key member of personnel at UNIT. As the Doctor's personal transport, Bessie was on the spot for many of his Earthbound adventures. Those were the glory days, when Bessie stood side by side with the Doctor, the Brigadier, Captain Yates and a parade of plucky young assistants. Yet Bessie's remarkable life began decades earlier, at the dawn of a new century, and it has continued beyond the UNIT years. Indomitably she lives to tell the tale, and is only too keen to do so.

Exiled to Earth by her mysterious superiors, Iris has been amusing herself and Panda by working for MIAOW, the Ministry for Incursions and Other Wonders. Among anachronistic skulls and crockery they discover the still-living forms of utterly perplexing, alien creatures.
