In 1973, at the peak of their stratospheric fame, the members of the classic rock band Bad Mother posed for an iconic photo gathered around an old stone well in the woods. That indelible image became the cover of their magnum opus, Wellspring, and the subject of a thousand fan theories concerning what the lead singer found in the well that drove him to new heights of artistic genius and depraved depths of violent madness culminating in the gruesome murder of a fan.

Most people operate from a fixed idea or concept of how things are supposed to be, rather functioning in the moment, where they can change anything as needed to accomplish and create more. This creates a tremendous limitation. We use conceptual constructs to create a purpose and a sense of rightness. Relationship, sex, sexuality, family, and the future are examples of conceptual constructs. Society is a construct. Culture, religion, and reputation are constructs. These things are not actually real; they are conceptual realities that have been dropped into our existence.

An author retreats to a remote cabin to finish a long-overdue novel. Alone with a mysterious device — a living diorama that brings scenes to life — the writing begins to flow again. Characters form. A world takes shape. And for the first time in months, the story feels real. Too real. Inside the diorama, Dylan and Sinéad are trying to hold their marriage together after devastating loss. But something is wrong. Time slips. Behaviour changes. Each suspects the other is breaking. The author watches it unfold… and begins to realise the story is no longer entirely under their control.
