Twenty years ago, during the reign of Edward I, the last Welsh prince was sentenced to death. All that remained of his family was his six-month-old daughter with dual royal bloodlines, who was arrested and sent to live at Sempringham Priory. She was to become a nun, never to procreate, because prophesy dictated that should she ever marry and rise to power, she would bring about the collapse of England.

Her arrow hit his shoulder. Her beauty caught his eye. But then there was the kiss...commander Valan MacDougall and his men are sent to end extended attack on Caerlaverock Castle, stronghold of Clan Maxwell. The warriors fully expect the reportedly aged widow of the keep to swoon with relief when they arrive. The English have plagued the fortress and surrounding village for weeks. The warriors from Argyll mean to end the siege in a day or less. In fact, they're placing bets on just how long it will take. After all, they are the invincible Gallóglaigh, and the English are... the English.

Fire and ice. Powerful forces on their own. Combined? Invincible passion. When mighty Thorburn MacDougall, commander of the Lord of Argyll’s warriors, overpowers the canniest Norwegian he’s ever battled, he rips off the man’s helm to savor the look of horror right before delivering the killing blow.

Sometimes the best revenge is to thrive… When Ross MacDougall, fearless warrior, frequenter of brothels, and seducer of other men’s wives, receives word that the Lord of Argyll wishes to reward him for their latest campaign, he’s skeptical. His liege’s gifts are often dubious blessings. Oftentimes, more like curses. Turns out he’s right to be leery. The reward is an Irish lass who looks like a grubby boy meant to work in the stables. And she's not intended to be Ross’s slave. She’s meant to be his wife. Men turn away from Elise O’Cleirigh because of the accursed red stain on her right cheek.
