When a nuclear missile is launched from somewhere in the east - North Korea or China - communications from other parts of the earth ceased. Thirty years later, civilization still struggles to become redefined. A new society has formed with new rules. Those that follow the rules can hope for a few years of comfort. Those on the inside of the safety dome have it tough. Those on the outside don’t last long. As far as the eye can see, the earth outside is radioactive, primitive. These are the stories of the survivors, men and women that struggle to eke out a living in a world gone awry.

What We See in the Smoke twists the genres of realism and science fiction to tell the future history of Toronto, a story that stretches from this millennium to the next. The novel leaps across the boundaries of time and space, as present and future Torontonians search for meaning, connection, and love in a city that grows more beautiful and frightening as its familiar characteristics fade away.

This rendition of my encounters is a simple, pared-down telling of every paranormal encounter I have ever had - all 40+ years' worth. Since I'm extremely private, putting myself out there is not easy for me. As far as proper grammar goes, please bear with me. I’m a simple Southern girl from the USA, and the way I speak and write might not be proper, but it is me. I did work with an editor to make it more intelligible, but I was reticent about having my Southerners' style removed entirely. My prose may not sound correct at times, but that’s just who I am.
