In the second instalment of the Maze Trilogy, religious fanaticism invades the village at the centre of the Maze: that and strangers from the kingdom usher in a period of change in which chaos rules.

It is the late summer of 1863 and the third year of the war in North America. In the wake of the defeat at Gettysburg, Robert E. Lee has returned, with his Confederate army, to Virginia. As Millichip closes in, Eddie's and Sam's lives are in mortal danger, whilst the police close in on Jamie who is running out of options.

However, the Grey aliens from Xi Boötes, the constellation of the farmer, have coincidentally come to the rescue. Lee's confederate Army of Northern Virginia during the American Civil War. The novel relates Ryan's experiences in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, and in the trenches around Richmond, during the closing months of the war. As the army and the south sink towards defeat, he, and the remnant of his Georgia company continue the struggle against the odds, experiencing at first-hand how war can reveal the best, as well as the worst, of those on either side.

Retribution is the final chapter of the story of Eddie and policewoman Sam Jacobs, who were responsible for the closure of the drugs cartel run by the Millichip family. It now leads to the desire for retribution by the Drugs cartel. Juan Ramos, a Lima cop, played a key part and now seeks election as a Senator to continue to fight crime in Peru. He also is a target. Danger follows the Jacobs both in Peru and London, leading to a dramatic finale on the Exe Estuary.

HARD PASSAGE NORTH continues the story of Irish immigrant Daniel Ryan, who has left his adopted Georgia home to serve in Robert E. Lee's Confederate Army of Northern Virginia. It is the summer of 1862 and, following the campaign to save their capital city of Richmond, Lee and his men are moving north to confront the threat posed by the Union army of General John Pope.

Now an alien probe has been found and its point of origin calculated, so a state of the art ship has been sent to take the first step, to make first contact.
