Just like in Galatians, Paul teaches the church in Colossae to beware of men who add unnecessary elements to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Anything added to the gospel results in “no gospel at all” (Gal. 1:7) The main reminder given in this book is that Jesus is king over all. This means that we must trust in him alone and not in “the tradition of men” (Col.2:8) Listen to Paul’s letter to Colossae and be reminded of the superiority of Jesus, who is our only hope.

In Ephesians, Paul gives us a detailed description of Church members' relationship to Christ. The apostle is writing to strengthen the churches of Ephesus. He tells them, "In him [Jesus] you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit." Paul protests against the perversion of the Gospel. Many are teaching the Galatians that they can be justified by works, and, as a result, they’ve abandoned the truth. Listen to the book of Galatians and rest in the fact that we are justified by grace through faith.

After finding out that the Corinthian church was filled with pride and committing sexual immorality, Paul teaches believers about the dangers of abusing freedom. The real problem is that the believers have a misunderstanding of grace. The Corinthian church was basing its faith on cheap grace. Cheap grace is grace without the cross, grace without repentance, and grace without cost. The apostle John shares with us his main goal: "...that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." (John 20:31)

The word Gospel means "good news", and this is just what the Apostle Mark shares with us in the second book of the New Testament. Mark tells us that Jesus has two natures: fully divine and fully man. Jesus was human with emotions, and yet he was also God in the flesh. But why did God need to become man? Why did he lower himself when he is the highest in the universe? Listen to the Gospel of Mark as he gives us the answers to these questions.

The Israelites have not been pursuing holiness as they should be. Rebellious and sinful, the people are in need of a savior. The prophet Malachi plays an important role in Israelite history. God warns Israel through Malachi. He tells them to repent and speaks of future restoration, foreshadowing of the coming Messiah. Listen to Malachi as he warns the people while still managing to remind them of God’s endless love.

Salvation from the Lord has no barriers. The prophet Zechariah teaches God’s people that the invitation of salvation goes out to all people, regardless of their nationality. In this book, the prophet foresees people from all over the world worshipping God. Listen to Zechariah as he scolds the people for their disobedience and tells of the future restoration of the faithful.

The day of the Lord is coming. This means total destruction of creation. Zephaniah’s message of judgment on all nations is not complete without his message of hope. God will vindicate the righteous, and he blesses those who repent and trust in him. Listen to the prophet Zephaniah, and be encouraged as we too wait for the final redemption in Christ’s second coming.

Have you ever questioned God's goodness because of all the evil and suffering in the world? Habakkuk can relate. The prophet laments to God about the injustices he is allowing among his people. Habakkuk even argues with God, claiming that his decisions are unfair. Watch as the Lord teaches this prophet that he uses even the evil things of this world for his good and holy purposes.

God tells Jonah to preach repentance to Nineveh, a ruthless and idolatrous nation. Jonah, a prophet who does not like the Assyrians, wants Nineveh to be destroyed. Instead of following God’s call, Jonah rebels and sails the opposite direction, deliberately fleeing from God. Stubborn Jonah ends up in the belly of a fish. Listen to the story of this prophet as God disciplines him for his disobedience and teaches him that He loves all people, even the enemies of his chosen ones.

Edom was at odds with Israel ever since its forefather Esau had struggled in the womb with his twin brother Jacob, the patriarch of Israel. After Edom played a role in the destruction of Jerusalem, the prophet Obadiah gives warning to the nation of their coming judgment, fulfilling God's promise from hundreds of years earlier: "I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curseth thee." (Gen. 12:3)

A plumb line and a basket of ripe fruit: two things the prophet Amos sees in visions. But what could these things symbolize? Listen to Amos, a lowly shepherd, as he warns the wealthy and religious Israelites about their idolatry and injustice to the poor. Could God be giving this prophet signs of the coming judgment?

Filled with allegories and themes of the awesome majesty of God, the book of Ezekiel is both painful and rewarding. The difficulties in reading this book derive from Ezekiel’s prophecies of judgment upon Judah and Jerusalem. The comfort, however, exceeds the painful parts. The book closes with a glimmer of hope for the Jews as the prophet depicts the restoration that is to come.

In this popular Old Testament book, we learn that God will unleash judgment on a rebellious Israel but also that he will redeem his people with deep compassion. The prophet Isaiah encourages the Israelites to repent from their sinful ways and to live a life of obedience to the Lord.

Songs of Solomon emphasizes the holiness and beauty of marriage through the story of a bridegroom who is in love with his bride. It can also been seen as an illustration of Christ’s love for the Church. Listen to this love poem and get a taste of how marriage paints a perfect picture of the Gospel.

What if you had all of the freedom, power, and money the world offers? Your life would be complete, right? Solomon set out to find out the answer to this question. In his wisdom Solomon reveals that you can have it all and have nothing if God is not your king.

King Solomon tells us in the book of Proverbs that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. Wisdom, unlike knowledge, is the ability to see things as God sees them. While this book offers practical pieces of advice, it also teaches us that wisdom cannot exist in one’s life without a relationship with God.

The book of Psalms is filled with sad songs of lamentation, raw prayers pleading for mercy, poetry about the work and nature of God, and beautiful hymns of praise. Many believers have found these prayers of Israel to be a source of comfort and hope and especially helpful in their own prayer lives. Although this is Israel’s book of prayers, it is also an enduring prayer book for God’s people forever. Listen to the Psalms and be astounded by each poem’s relevancy to your own life.

Job is what everyone would consider a “good” person. So why are so many terrible things happening to him? The real question may be: Why does Job continue to give praise to God in the midst of his terrible circumstances? Although he laments and suffers, Job ultimately understands that God is good and is worth praising no matter what.
