"Prelude" is a 1918 short story by Katherine Mansfield. It was first published by the Hogarth Press in July 1918, and later reprinted in "Bliss and Other Stories".

The Daughters of the Late Colonel is a 1920 short story by Katherine Mansfield. It was first published in the London Mercury in May 1921. In bed, Constantia suggests giving her late father's top hat to the porter, but her sister Josephine disagrees. Reginald is returning to Rhodesia the next day; it is his last day in England. Katherine Mansfield was a master of the short story. With characters in psychological struggles resulting in a major life shift or revelation, her style influenced contemporary and friend Virginia Woolf as well as modern authors including Alice Munro. These stories were written between 1920 and 1921, while she was ill with tuberculosis. She died in 1923 at the age of 34. Fifteen stories are included in this recording.
