The Izzy Chronicles

One courageous young girl, one impossible choice. Book One of the Izzy Chronicles. On the distant planet Mirron, eye color determines everything. Topaz eyes sit at the top of society. Pearl eyes sit at the bottom. And no one is allowed to forget it.

Twelve-year-old Izzy Ashford is the only Pearl in an all-Topaz town. Adopted and deeply loved by her Topaz parents, but increasingly aware of what her color means to the world around her. When subtle prejudice turns into open bullying just before sixth-grade graduation, Izzy can no longer pretend the color system doesn't affect her.

Then, during a summer vacation, a mysterious stranger named Sam appears with an offer that changes everything: he can permanently transform her Pearl eyes to Topaz, just before the new school year begins.

At first, the decision seems obvious.

But, as the summer unfolds, Izzy discovers things about friendship, courage, and her own history that she never expected. She begins to wonder whether changing who she is will truly bring the belonging she longs for — or whether it will cost her something she can never get back.

With September approaching and the clock running out, Izzy faces the most important decision of her young life.

Izzy's Dilemma is a coming-of-age light science fiction fantasy that blends a richly imagined world with timely themes of identity, belonging, bullying, and prejudice. Ideal for fans of The Giver, A Wrinkle in Time, and Wonder. Perfect for listeners ages 10 and up.
