Chloe Mayfield is a career cop, but when a high-profile bust goes spectacularly wrong, she finds herself assigned to the losers in Blue Moon … and discovers a world she never knew existed. Thieves have broken into the Federal Reserve and made off with millions in gold. The catch? They were dressed like leprechauns, and by all accounts, used magic to do it. Cue up a fresh case for Sergeant Chloe Mayfield, but if she thought the last one was fraught with danger, she’s going to have to redefine her terminology. If it were not bad enough that she has to negotiate rogue gunmen, sword-wielding mercenaries, and a famous monster hunter, she has enemies within Boston PD to contend with, at least one of whom thinks their life would be easier if she were dead.

When a third headless victim is found on Boston’s streets, Chloe Mayfield is tasked with finding the person behind the crime spree – no one else wants a case this weird. It would be easy to dismiss the murders as nothing more than the random acts of a madman with a cosplay fetish, but when her investigations lead her to the morgue, she comes face to face with an apparition she cannot explain.

The Sisters of Salem are in disarray, their coven leader murdered and left to be found. The case has already been closed; the death attributed to the headless horseman’s reign of terror. But was he really to blame? Sergeant Chloe Mayfield doesn’t think so, but her one cop mission to find the real killer clashes with her orders and she’s already on shaky ground with the higher-ups. All they need is one good reason and she’s out of a job. Nevertheless, she feels responsible–Chloe should have spotted the clues and been able to prevent the coven leader’s death. Shouldn’t she?

The salt-filled breezes, fresh lobster from the bay, and familiar songs of the sailors maneuvering their ships in and out of the harbor are just a few of the things she loves. Dead knights washing up on the shoreline? Not so much. When a figure dressed like he’s from Arthurian England winds up in the city morgue, Chloe sets out to investigate. Soon she hears rumors telling of a very special sword reported to be in the city. The mighty Excalibur has reached New England.

Branded a terrorist and enemy of the United Fairy Commonwealth, she’s under fire from every direction, and there is no shortage of people eager to take advantage of the chaos, including a murderer who stalks the streets of Boston.
