Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Niall Kerry. I’m almost forty years old, and I’m drowning in something that begins with ‘S’ – it doesn’t quite seem appropriate to write it down here.

I’ve never liked lies. I’m an honest guy: I say exactly what I’m thinking without any filter. Without considering the consequences. That’s why people always think I’m an idiot. Someone who only wants to have fun, who never has any problems. Someone who never worries about the future.

I’ve gone back: back to the place where it all started, where somebody else had the final say. I did it out of love for my family. I’m trying to rebuild my life, to stay standing, even though my legs hurt like hell. I’m concentrating on myself, on my career.

A year ago, she begged me to stay. A year later, it’s my turn to beg her not to go. My obsession. My downfall. I tried to resist, to keep her at a distance. I tried to save myself. But no one will be saved here, not even a selfish bastard like me.
