Acerca de este título
In December 2010, a police dog searching Ocean Parkway on Long Island found the remains of a woman. The officers were looking for someone else: Shannan Gilbert, who had vanished in May after a frantic call to 911. Within days there were four, women who had disappeared between 2007 and 2010: Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Lynn Costello.
The Architect of Gilgo Beach is a documentary-style true crime audiobook about the Long Island serial killer case, told from two sides. One thread follows the women: the four of Ocean Parkway and Jessica Taylor, Valerie Mack, Sandra Costilla and Karen Vergata, with their lives, their families and the mothers and sisters who would not stop asking questions. The other follows the investigation, the dead ends in Suffolk County, a dark green pickup truck that sat in a file for more than a decade, and the task force that finally took a second look.
For nearly thirteen years, Rex Heuermann, a Manhattan architect, rode the commuter train to work and came home to a house in Massapequa Park. Then a discarded pizza crust, a trash can on Fifth Avenue and a DNA laboratory changed everything. In 2026, Heuermann, now the convicted Gilgo Beach killer, pleaded guilty to seven murders, admitted an eighth, and was sentenced.
Built on court filings, the 911 recordings and the words of the families, this book gives the full account of the Gilgo Beach murders, from the first discovery to the courtroom in Riverhead.
