In January I am going to a country house in England in Yorkshire. It is a place with a lot of rain and fog in the park. The house has a tunnel of beautiful but empty rooms that are filled with the sound of footsteps and the cold winter light. What I like most about the country house is that it is the setting for a story set in a made-up eighteenth century.
I have been talking about a TV show starring Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell for years. But now that the time has come and I am at Wentworth Woodhouse I have no idea what to do. The size of the house is not the scary thing about it. Maybe I should find someone. Say sorry for all the trouble. There are a lot of trucks parked in front of the house. It is not the feeling that reality is out of sync with itself or alien.
I think that is a part of every movie set. Look at the miles of wire that wind up and down stone stairs and then disappear like a snake into the darkness of one of a hundred unknown rooms. No, the people who are dressed and cut in clothes and hairstyles from the 1800s are what confuse me the most
