In Three Men in a Boat, Jerome K. Jerome delivers a charming and hilariously absurd account of a boating trip gone awry. When three friends—George, Harris, and the narrator—decide to take a relaxing journey down the River Thames, they set off with grand plans of leisure and adventure. What follows is a series of comically disastrous events that reveal just how little they know about boating, camping, or life in general. With plenty of misadventures, misunderstandings, and laugh-out-loud moments, the trio’s journey becomes a delightful satire on the absurdities of human nature.

In this comedic masterpiece, three young men, increasingly given to thoughts of hypochondria, decide to embark on a journey along the river Thames. Confident that the fresh air and daily exercise will grant them immunity from a myriad of illnesses and diseases, they pack up their frying pans, toothbrushes, food and canine companion, Montmorency, and set off on an unexpected adventure.

Even when the sailing is smooth, the stories never stop in Jerome K. Jerome's comic novel. Plaster fishes, dead water rats, near-death escapes, and many, many jocose anecdotes create a colorful narrative of holiday life on the river. For once three hypochondriacs self-diagnose themselves as "clearly overworked", the rest practically writes itself!

Jerome K Jerome began writing in 1888 with "On the Stage and Off', followed the next year by his familiar classic "Three Men in a Boat". In this delightful collection of stories, narrated by Hubert Gregg, the author reveals all too well why these stories should only be "told after supper". Listener beware!

Jerome Klapka Jerome (1859-1927) was an English writer and humourist. Passing of the Third Floor Back, first published in 1904, is a collection of early 20th-century short stories portraying the small-minded inhabitants of a building who make life unpleasant for one another. A mysterious stranger arrives, and starts to bring about miraculous changes in the behaviour of the tenants, improving the ambiance and the lives of all.

The funny and poignant autobiography of Jerome K Jerome, who is best known for his comic novel Three Men in a Boat. Jerome struggled against poverty and obscurity, not to mention his improbable name, for many years before Three Men in a Boat made him a celebrity and the friend of other celebrities. A man of deep human sympathies and principles, he lived through and engaged with, a time - like our own - of unprecedented changes and inventions.

Martyrs to hypochondria and general seediness, J. and his friends George and Harris decide that a jaunt up the Thames would suit them to a ‘T’. But when they set off, they can hardly predict the troubles that lie ahead with tow-ropes, unreliable weather-forecasts and tins of pineapple chunks – not to mention the devastation left in the wake of J.’s small fox-terrier Montmorency.

A witty account of three friends' boating adventure along the River Thames. Written in the 19th century, the humour is still accessible to a modern audience. Read by leading celebrated British Actor, Sir Timothy Ackroyd.

Three Men in a Boat was intended to be a serious travel guide. It failed dismally in this respect but succeeded in becoming an hilarious account of a boating holiday on the Thames between Kingston and Oxford. The three men were based on the author and two of his friends. The holiday was a typical boating holiday of its time, carried out on what was known as a Thames camping skiff. The dog, Montmorency, however, was entirely fictional, but, as Jerome remarked, 'had much of me in it'.

This audiobook is a faithful reproduction of one of Jerome K Jerome's first successes, a humorous autobiographical look at his early career in the theatre, published in 1885. The modest success of this book opened the door to further plays and essays, leading on to 'Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow' in the following year.
