Although she left school at 14, she was enormously talented, and by her 20s she was well established as a writer of short stories. 'Story of the Vanishing Patient' is a ghostly tale of the strange happenings when a young doctor is summoned next door to attend a dying woman one night....

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) is widely recognized as Germany's greatest poet and writer.
