Short stories have always been a sort of instant access into an author’s brain, their soul and heart. Whether they hail from the Lowlands or the Highlands, to be a Scottish author is to part of a quite an extraordinary band of authors and its literary traditions. These beguiling stories example the full range and majesty of their talents and the subjects they explore.

During the Victorian era the publishing of magazines and periodicals accelerated at a phenomenal rate. This really was mass market publishing to a hungry audience eager for literary sustenance. Many of our greatest authors contributed and expanded their reach whilst many fledging authors also found a ready source for their nascent works and careers. Amongst the very many was ‘The Yellow Book’.

Presented here are three of the most popular children's books of all time: The Wizard of Oz, The Reluctant Dragon, and Five Children and It.

Presented here are four of the most popular children's books of all time, produced with music and sound effects to enhance the experience: Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows, Margery Williams' The Velveteen Rabbit, and Lewis Carroll's The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass.

These tales, from the golden age of classic children’s literature, enchant both children and adults alike. The listener will be transported into the charming world of the "Riverbank", the grandeur of Toad Hall, the darkness of the Wild Wood as we share the adventures of capable Ratty, the trusting and innocent Mole, the wise Badger, and the conceited but irrepressible Toad. The stories are humorous, exciting, occasionally scary, and at the same time comforting, because of the wonderful bonds of friendship and camaraderie which bind the four principal characters.

Here is the first of these beautiful tales, The Reluctant Dragon, wherein the main character - known only as "the Boy" - discovers a friendly dragon living outside his small village. When the villagers learn of the dragon's existence, they recruit St. George himself to slay the monster, prompting the Boy to intervene and try to save his friend. It is a sweet, uplifting fable of love and friendship for children of all ages and is presented here in its original and unabridged format.

British author Kenneth Grahame, during his brief career, managed to create two of the world's most beloved children's stories: the classic tale The Wind in the Willows and the novella The Reluctant Dragon, each one a magnificent addition to any collection. Here, these two famous stories are combined into one volume, presented in their original and unabridged format. First, Grahame's sprawling saga of life in the English countryside, The Wind in the Willows. Also, a story of friendship, love, and compassion, The Reluctant Dragon.

Everyone is in a panic - a dragon has been discovered in a cave near the town! The people call for that famous dragon-slaying knight Saint George to defeat the monstrous beast. But when one smart little boy actually meets the dragon, he finds a harmless, friendly creature who would much rather write poems than burn villages

Written by the author of The Wind in the Willows, this collection of imaginative tales includes "Dies Irae", "Mutabile Semper", "The Magic Ring", "Its Walls Were as of Jasper", "A Saga of the Seas", "The Reluctant Dragon", and "A Departure".

"Vinden i piletræerne" er den klassiske fortælling om vennerne Muldvarpen, Vandrotten, Tudse og Grævlingen. Historien om venskab og opdagelser, farer og loyalitet begyndte som en række godnathistorier, Kenneth Grahame fortalte sin lille søn, Alastair. Den blev udgivet første gang i 1908 og blev omgående en bestseller. Siden har bogen fortryllet generation efter generation over hele verden.

"The only really living people are children," said Kenneth Grahame, and here the magical life of childhood is played out with vivid imagination as a group of children view themselves as the heroes and the adults in their world as "the Olympians".

Kenneth Grahame's 1898 children's story, "The Reluctant Dragon" (read here in its abridged version), is a lovely fable about a small boy's efforts to save the life of a large, lazy (self-professed), and droll blue-scaled dragon who prefers poetry to rampaging. Having taken up residence in a cave overlooking the beautiful English countryside, the dragon must contend with a challenge to fight none other than St. George, called by local villagers to slay the beast.

From the author of The Wind in the Willows comes this story of a boy who befriends a lazy, but quite pleasant dragon that takes up residence nearby. When the townspeople call in St. George, the eminent dragon-slayer, to do battle, it's up to the boy to sort things out - and stick up for his newfound friend. It's a hilarious story that will have you cheering for the dragon and his pal.

"...there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats." So says Rat, as he welcomes the lonely Mole to the community of the River. Whether messing about in boats, touring in Toad's motorcar, or simply relaxing at home, Mole, Rat, Otter, Toad, and Badger demonstrate the honorable human characteristics of kindness, patience, and tolerance toward all that have made this classic tale beloved by generations since it was first published in 1908.

This quintessentially English novel is considered by many to be a masterpiece of storytelling. Set for the most part on a riverbank in rural England, against a backdrop of social, agricultural, and industrial change typical of the early 20th century, Kenneth Grahame's portrayal of the anthropomorphic characters (which include Mole, Ratty, Badger, Otter, and, of course, the incorrigible Mr. Toad) is imaginative, lyrical, and without doubt uniquely humorous.

From the author of The Wind in the Willows comes this humorous tale of a poetic dragon who defies stereotypes with the help of a bright little boy and a certain English saint....

Since publication in 1908, The Wind in the Willows has established itself as one of the most popular children's books ever written. The animals Rat, Toad, Mole, Badger, and many more share their trials and tribulations as well as joys as they progress through the seasons of the year. The magical fantasy of their journeys starts on the river bank and goes to the heights of Toad Hall, a truly fine mansion of many secret passages. All children will delight and be taken away on the wings of imagination.

The River Rat, Mole, Otter and Badger display more than human kindness and patience when they become involved in Toad's wild schemes and escapades. You loved it as a child. We think that you still will.
