At the Sunny Bay Home for Superfluous and Accidentally Parentless Children, Pip and Flora are in trouble. Running away with their dog they discover the Marvellous Land of Snergs, a magical world of cinnamon bears and scrumptious feasts - but also one of vegan ogres, disgraced jesters and dastardly Kelps, with a villain dressed entirely in purple.... Soon their only friend is forgetful but lovable snerg, Gorbo. He will lead them home - if they can decide where home really is and if Gorbo can remember how to get there.

Just over the river lived Golithos, a not so friendly giant, who also loved children – with a lot of salt! He had a friend called Mother Meldrum, the wickedest witch that ever lived. When Sylvia and Joe run away for a big adventure their lives are in deadly peril when they fall into the clutches of these two evil characters.

Wo der Hobbit seinen Anfang nahm. Pip und Flora laufen aus dem Sunny Bay Home für elternlose Kinder davon und geraten mitten in eine andere Welt. Sie entdecken das Land der Schnerge, einen magischen Ort tief im Wald. Hier gibt es Zimtbären, ausschweifende Feste und kuriose Rituale - aber auch Hexen und boshafte Wesen. Zum Glück haben die beiden Kinder den chaotischen, liebenswerten Schnerg Gorbo zum Freund. Größter Fan der Schnerge war wohl J.R.R. Tolkien, dem die Originalversion des Textes als Vorbild für den "kleinen Hobbit" diente.

This children's fantasy novel is set on a fictional, hard-to-reach island somewhere on planet Earth. The island is host to a colony of children, a wicked witch, the crew of the Flying Dutchman, and the titular snergs—as well as unicorns, tigers, bears, ghouls, and dragons that live in the woods. The story follows Sylvia and Joe on an adventure gone wrong once they're taken captive by an ogre, Golithos, and the aforementioned wicked witch: Mother Meldrum. Gorbo the Snerg and Baldry, a court jester, must come to their aid.
