P.I. Bertrand McAbee never thought he'd see another harness race track after a near-death experience in Cassies Ruler. This former classics prof is hired to look into the beating and threatening of a harness horse trainer. As he engages with the case, the story of a pacer - Phantom Express - emerges that begins to capture the attention of America. It also brings back some bad memories to some vicious people. In what occurs too often for McAbee's taste, a simple case caroms into a complex case where death and mayhem lurk.

Ostensibly, Francis McNulty was born on third base - wealth and brains in abundance. But startlingly, in 1984 he channels the renowned medieval Saint Francis of Assisi by renouncing the material world in favor of a life of extreme poverty and religious devotion. Mysteriously, he disappears in 1987 and is never heard from again, presumed dead by almost everyone. Now his repentant and mega-rich brother, dying from ALS, pleads with McAbee to come at the matter with fresh eyes.

Former classics professor Bertrand McAbee, now turned private investigator, has a history of unwarily stepping into nasty cases. This is one of those as he comes up against a former Marine, Alex Love, who is two things at once: an expert sniper and supposedly dead. In the intervening years since the Gulf War, Love has been addicted to assassinating individuals of ill-repute. As if fate had ordained it, these two very unlike men, McAbee and Love, meet in a contest where justice and revenge stand in opposition. Only one can survive.

Former classics professor, Bertrand McAbee - an ambivalent PI, is asked to investigate a fatal car crash in Ohio. The victim was a former professorial colleague of his. McAbee's involvement in this apparently simple investigation will find him ensconced in an extraordinary set of events that began just prior to World War I. A toy - the pony circus wagon - is embedded with a fortune in jewels along with a story and provenance of incredible dimensions.

P.I. Bertrand McAbee, a former classics professor, has a knack for finding dangerous cases. This time a misanthrope, with a satirical sense of humor, is discovered hanging under an Interstate 55 overpass. Suspects seem to be almost infinite and the Chicago P.D. disengages. As McAbee enters this labyrinthine affair, he begins to see that an extraordinary cast of groups with notoriously short tempers might have taken aim at this victim. With the assistance of his team and the play of events his focus turns to the one group he didn't want to encounter.

Cynthia Power is found dead in her garage. The cops declare it a clear case of suicide over the objection of her psychiatrist, who asks PI Bertrand McAbee to investigate. As he does, he becomes aware of a high school group called the Demosthenes Club that was formed in 1967. Cynthia was a member, along with seven other students. They were extremely gifted and went on to great success with the exception of one who drowned just before graduation in 1968. McAbee discovers the eight students had strained relations with each other.

A Roman Catholic priest long known for his holiness is accused of pedophilia from many years ago....

A murder at a small harness track in western Illinois is resurrected and this leads to the hiring of Bertrand McAbee, a reluctant PI who was formerly a classics professor. He eventually finds himself in the middle of a pursuit for a vicious serial killer. It seems like McAbee cannot avoid violence. He, along with a cohort of memorable helpers, explore harness racing, serial killers, and the maintenance of ethics in a world of virtual chaos.

Toward the middle of the twelfth century King Roger II, the Norman occupier of southern Italy and Sicily, desired to have an accurate map of the world. The scholars most known in the field of geography were Moslems, some of whom were famed for the personal travels they undertook. One of these men, Mohammed al-Idrisi, was sought out by Roger for his extraordinary knowledge of the known world.
