Invasion of the Sea was written in 1904 when large-scale canal digging was very much a part of the political, economic, and military strategy of the world's imperial powers. Instead of linking two seas, as existing canals (the Suez and the Panama) did, Verne proposed a canal that would create a sea in the heart of the Sahara Desert. The story raises a host of concerns—environmental, cultural, and political. The proposed sea threatens the nomadic way of life of those Islamic tribes living on the site, and they declare war.

Set in the 22nd century's female-dominated Matriarchy, this ABDL series depicts life inside a regal and wealthy Countess' castle in a remote part of Central Europe. Book One is centered upon two young lovers who are immediately separated from one another upon their arrival at the Countess' castle. As the young man and woman grapple with their new lives as servants of the ever-illustrious and all-powerful Countess, they will have to tolerate the perverse and bizarre nature of their servile positions, all the while navigating the sexual politics and personal drama of the castle.

In this series we listen to short stories that are NOT by perhaps the most well-known author of this type. But the many other rich talents in the volume may have treated the subject matter a little differently, or were perhaps just overlooked in the stampede to applaud the winner, but these authors are of equal merit. Each of their works is laden with talent, has purpose, and is rich and textured in this gloried niche of literature.
