Callie and her pet Bo, a mischievous mynah bird, have a secret. Whenever she puts in and switches on her hearing aids, she can hear Bo talk to her. It's amazing...though it can lead to trouble for them both! When Bo sneaks into Callie's bag on her school trip to the Tower of London, she and her best friend Grace must keep his presence hidden. But when some gold coins and jewels are stolen, it turns out that having a spy in the sky can come in useful!

Odd things are being stolen all over town—a bicycle, swimming trunks, the school's tractor mower. Nine-year-old Callie Major has other things to worry about: number one being her dreaded new hearing aids—or, as she prefers to call them, 'the Slugs'. But when she meets Bo, an abandoned Mynah bird, she discovers something amazing. Without her hearing aids, all the sounds Bo makes are merely chirping; when she's wearing them, though, she can hear him talk to her! Can she use her magical Slugs to help catch the thief and save the day?
