American bush pilot Russell Stendal, on a routine trip, landed his plane in a remote Colombian village and found himself in the middle of an armed ambush. Within minutes, he was taken hostage by Communist guerrilla fighters and told he would be held for ransom. Held at gunpoint deep in the jungle for 142 days, Russell began to write. He told the story of his life and recorded his experience inside the guerrilla camp. That writing became a bridge between him and his captors, many of whom were young, armed, and spiritually lost.

The gospel of Mark speaks of the Son of God who will soon return and manifest an incorruptible kingdom that differs greatly from the kingdoms of men. When Jesus said that his kingdom is not of this world, some were very disillusioned. They did not understand that Jesus came to announce a very different kingdom, which he started by planting an incorruptible word (for he is the living word of God).

Some revivals in church history, such as the Reformation and the Great Awakening, were somewhat similar to the events described in the Book of Ezra and by the prophets Haggai and Zechariah. When a remnant left Babylon and returned to Jerusalem bearing the vessels of the Lord, they restored the altar, laid the foundation, and rebuilt the house of the Lord. The Book of Nehemiah, however, is in a different setting. Years have gone by, and things are no longer well in Jerusalem. The “wall” is broken down and the “gates” are burned with fire.

The ark is a representation of Christ and of how our reconciliation with God the father is made possible. The tabernacle of David depicts the heavenly realm touching the earth and is a living, prophetic parable of how we may come into a direct and personal relationship with God through Christ without intermediary clergy or religious, legalistic ritual. The once-and-for-all blood sacrifice at Calvary was required in order to put the new covenant into effect.
