Sergeant Ben Gibson and his son Cooper are gradually settling into life in the rural city of Clarkdale in Central Victoria having decided to make it their permanent home. In Operation Counterstrike Senior Constable Cassandra Morrow and police dog Samson, a feisty two-year-old Rottweiler, are sent to Clarkdale to complete their six-month operational training phase.

Then, as he slowly recovers from the loss of Duke, disaster strikes again when his wife and daughter are tragically killed in a car accident.
