This is East Park. A teenager's been shot and killed. It doesn't happen round here. DI Needler has a reputation for being difficult. That's why she's been paired with a Polish detective transferred from London. Needler isn't very good at doing what she's told, so when the DCI explains that this is an open-and-shut case, she isn't convinced. There's more to it. A smuggling operation on the docks. A rotten egg on the force feeding information. Someone wants the investigation buried. If Needler knew what was good for her, she would leave well alone. Pity she isn't built that way.

When 17-year-old Richie Jackson finds an old man nearly dead in the snow, he drags him to the Half Moon pub near Skidby Mill. Richie won't make it back home to North Burton in this blizzard and Nana won't get the supplies he's carrying for Christmas Day neither. He'll get a right earful.

Our Dave has been running Avenue Cars on Chanterlands Ave, Hull, for as long as anyone remembers. You can depend on Our Dave... but it wasn’t always like that. Back in the seventies he did things he isn’t proud of, and buried under the shed on his allotment behind Newland Ave, is a shotgun. There are dark forces in this city. Leatherhead controls the heavy drugs that come through Hessle Road. The Mancs are trying to muscle their way in, and then you’ve got the bent coppers. If Our Dave is to keep his drivers safe, he’ll have to go back to his old ways. It’ll be murder.
