The dramatised narrative 'Witness for the Defence' relates an account of the unacceptable, but still prevalent, degradation of domestic violence.It remains an appalling fact that in the 21 st century there are women all over the world who are being violated, both mentally and physically, by their abusive male partners - women who are reduced to a state of submissive, humiliating, subservience and despair, brain-washed, beaten and coerced into total submission.

In this fictional story, Mr Tang, an artist, has been stripped of his livelihood during the Cultural Revolution in China. Painters, writers and intellectuals were forbidden to work during those years (1966-1976). As a result, Mr Tang’s supporters had fallen by the wayside so he and his wife are left alone with time on their hands. Mr Tang develops a passion for carving pipes, some of which are exquisite.

Maddox is an old-school journalist struggling to keep up with new technology. He fears the art of finding stories is being forgotten and is not about to let that happen. His online editor Freddy, however, will happily regurgitate a press release and call it a story.
