Tante Thea möchte gemeinsam mit ihrem Neffen Tom ihren Urlaub in einer Schlosspension verbringen. Anfangs findet Tom diese Idee nicht sehr toll. Dieser Urlaub sollte sich aber dennoch, wie sich bald herausstellt, als äußerst spannend erweisen. Tom trifft nämlich ein Gespenst namens Fridolin, das nur mit Kindern sprechen und sich auch nur diesen zeigen konnte. Gleich am zweiten Tag ihres Urlaubes erzählt der Schlossherr Bertram, der in argen Geldnöten steckt, dem Buben eine alte Geschichte über einen Schatz, der sich möglicherweise noch irgendwo hier im Schloss befindet.

Tina und Stefan, zwei junge Radfahrer, suchen nach einem Unterschlupf, da ein Gewitter herannaht. Sie finden eine kleine Hütte, die einen Kilometer entfernt von Schloss Rasselfels liegt und zum Schloss zu gehören scheint. Dort machen sie Bekanntschaft mit Fridolin, dem kleinen Schlossgespenst. Da sie dieses aber nur bei Vollmond zu Gesicht bekommen würden, verabreden sie sich mit dem Gespenst für die darauffolgende Woche. Und endlich ist es so weit. Fridolin gibt sich zu erkennen und plant sogleich einen Ausflug zu dritt.

Schloss Rasselfels ist bereits über 400 Jahre alt und schon etwas desolat. Herr Bertram, der Schlossherr, hat zwei Zimmer für Urlauber hergerichtet. Für mehr reicht das Geld nicht. Eines Tages, seine Nichte Julia ist gerade auf Besuch, läuten zwei komische Männer an der Tür und fragen nach einem Zimmer für die Nacht. Bald schlägt der eine Gast Herrn Bertram vor, das Schloss in ein Grand Hotel umzubauen, was Julia gar nicht gefällt. Sie trifft sich in der Nacht mit Fridolin, dem kleinen Schlossgespenst, und gemeinsam belauschen sie die beiden Gäste.
