J. Krishnamurti (1895-1986) was a philosopher in the original sense of the word, not an academic or intellectual, but a lover of truth who raised essential questions of living. He spent his adult life speaking to people around the world about eternal questions of life. In this series of eight talks, given in Ojai, California, in 1955, he confronts the confusion, habits, and assumptions of the human mind, and claims these lie at the root of all violence and suffering in the world.

In this Hindi-language translation of The First and Last Freedom, Krishnamurti emphasises on the importance of self-understanding, arguing that truth cannot be found within formal institutions, organised religions and their dogmas or in any guru or outside authority. He claims that we are all operating with the sole focus of the self and its context in time and place - this results in competition, conflict and the constant promotion of one's own self over all others, even those closest to us.

Jeevan Ek Anveshan consists of 14 intensive dialogues that Jiddu Krishnamurthy held with his close associates, co-scholars and religious seekers. These dialogues are not viewpoints; neither are they questions or answers. Instead, they form a new genre of communication that have a tentative beginning, deep listening that offers deep insights without offering any quick solutions. These explorations lead to newer and deeper perceptions. This book is invaluable for those who wish to have a deeper understanding of the processes of self-knowing.

Acknowledged as one of the greatest religious teachers of this or any other age, the late J. Krishnamurti was a visionary whose ideas are still ahead of his time. New Dimensions host Michael Toms was fortunate to capture this philosopher's penetrating wisdom in 1983, just a few years before his death at the age of 90.
