Her hatred of idleness, combined with her imagination, led her to write. Her son was Stanley Baldwin, who became the British prime minister. 'The Shadow on the Blind' is a classic gothic ghost story. An old, abandoned house, Harbledon Hall, is rented by the Stackpoole family.
